What ARe Waveboards?

Waveboards have something in common with electric skateboards. That is, you don’t have to ever put your foot to the ground. Your board will be able to accelerate and decelerate whilst both your feet are on the board. The board’s movement is aided by the two decks, each of which is able to twist opposite of each other.

Indeed, a waveboard has a very unique design. Instead of four wheels, like most other boards, a waveboard has just two wheels. Each of them is able to rotate freely in all 360 degrees. The board itself is made up of two separate decks, as opposed to just the one deck in normal skateboards. A spring-loaded torsion bar connects these two decks. These decks are able to twist opposite of each other, and it is precisely this movement that enables the board to move forward and backward.

Waveboards are typically more durable than a normal skateboard. Since they are used less for tricks, and more for commuting, they are subjected to less daily wear and tear. This allows them to last longer, giving you greater value-for-money on your purchase.

Past Customers

"Have to say this waveboard has given my 10 and 12 year old hours of fun. Takes a bit of time to learn basic skills but they soon had it sorted and began to experiment with tricks. Great looking and sturdy board and good value for money."

– Roger Ong (Customer)

"I give this product 5 stars because it doesn’t get scratched up easily, and it is easy to learn how to ride. I am an expert on this because I had had the opportunity to ride MANY waveboards belonging to my friends and this one is by far the best. The first time i stepped on it I was taken a bit by surprise because it came out from under me but then after an hour I was cruising along."

– Shao Yin (Customer)

"Very bright and vibrant colors. A Lot of the waveboards that I have seen are kind of dull colors. I like that mine has bright and vibrant colors so it just gives a happy vibe"

– Vanessa Teng (customer)

What To Know WHen Buying A Waveboard

So how exactly do these waveboards move?

The secret lies in the torsion bar that connects the two decks. Because of this bar, each deck is now kept separate. Each deck can now swivel individually, aided by the 360 degree wheels attached below.

Through an “S” shape motion with the hips and shoulders, the rider can move his feet to swivel each deck. This ultimately, is what propels the waveboard forward.

This might sound more complicated than it actually is. Don’t worry. Simply hop onto a waveboard and give it a try. We guarantee that you’ll be able to master it within a few short minutes. All you need is some repetition. Your muscle memory will do the rest.

Pre-Assembled Boards

As with other typical boards, the waveboard also provides great grip for the rider.

In fact, the waveboard is designed to provide maximal stability to the rider. Since both the rider’s feet will be on the board through the journey, he/she does not always have the luxury to adjust his/her feet. Instead, a series of mechanism is put in place.

At the top of the decks are traction plates. These plates grip onto the shoe of the rider, thereby minimising the chance of the rider falling should their feet slip accidentally. Traction pads are also found at the middle of these decks. They are further grips that attaches to the middle of the shoe, providing even more stability.

Tips and Advice

What To Consider When Buying Waveboards

Waveboards might look complicated. After all, they don’t move exactly the same way as a skateboard do. However, once you get past the initial learning stage, you’ll realise just how easy steering a waveboard is. Not only that, but it also saves you a lot of energy as well.

A typical skateboard would require you to put both your feet onto the ground. You would then have to drive and push to get the board to accelerate. No such thing with waveboards. You can go the entire journey with both your feet on the board. The unique mechanism ensures that steering is done without the need to drive and push.

When you travel in a city, especially one as populated as Singapore, ideally you want to stay cool and trendy. That’s what these boards are about. Whilst most boards do allow for some degree of customisability, waveboards allow for 100% customisability. This means you get to design the entire look of your waveboard.

Yet, perhaps the most important  components are the two decks. After all, these are the components that are most visible to onlookers. They can be designed in any colour, from silver, gold, and black, to green, orange and red. The choice is entirely yours.

Even if waveboards have half the number of wheels (2) as normal skateboards (4) do, they are still slightly heavier. That’s because of their construction. Unlike most other boards, waveboards are made from slightly heavier materials. Furthermore, they also have two decks, as opposed to just one in normal boards.

As such, If you are used to carrying a skateboard around, you might feel the weight difference when you switch to a waveboard. However, that is unlikely to matter much when you are cruising down the city streets.

Most waveboards these days are made from ABS plastic. These are high quality materials, chosen due to their combination of lightness, durability, as well as affordability. ABS plastic is what makes your waveboard much lighter than it otherwise would be. It is also durable, and able to withstand daily wear and tear. Plastic is also widely available, and therefore makes the board much more affordably priced.

However, alternatives do exist. If you are are not comfortable with a waveboard made from ABS plastic, you can easily find one that is made from alloy.
